Free

Living here in Abu Dhabi, I embrace the fact that as an American, I am truly free; free to love who I want, when I want and how I want.  Free to decide if he who stands before me is right for me or even "in it" for me.  Sure Americans can make love hard; high divorce rates, single unwed mothers and millions of "never-been-married with no children" men and women like myself, but at the end of the day, to love or not to love is all up to us.  How will you choose?  Today, I choose to love who's loving me.

Until next time...Peace & Blessings,

  2. Well said Terre. Having been abroad, I'm convinced that, while living in the US, we have way too many choices. On some level these faux choices seem to results in a kind of "white noise" in our thinking. This feels especially true for men and seemingly even more true for Black men.

I digress to say, I'll bet that living in Abu Dhabi, regimented, controlled and all, has helped to silence that distracting white noise and allowed to you to see the truth; that all we can ever really do is love those who love us back. Thanks for the silent reflection. Love ya'.... Cort'

  3. I would agree that in America we have an illusion of choice and that illusion often times clouds our decisions. However, here, these women seem to have no choice at all and it gives me comfort to know that I CAN choose for myself. The disheartening thing is that we often do what my cousins mother in-law once told her, 'we pick and pick until we pick sh@t! I am truly beginning to see people as just people; the money, the jobs, the sense of "security" is starting to matter less to me and the notion that to have someone who truly cares, who truly loves you for you and who is down for you no matter, is truly the essence of real love.

    Thanks for sharing Cort.
